Hand Bells

Abrams Planetarium 7:00 PM - 8:00 PMTuesday FreeRegistration closed on

Larry and Carla Sue will be performing an hour of traditional holiday music on handbells this December for Rest with Music: GoodNight! The couple has been performing together as a duo since 2012. Their repertoire extends across the entire spectrum of hymns, classical music, Christmas carols, and folk music, and they continue to be surprised at just how many musical selections can be played using just eight notes.

Larry has been playing the handbells since 1987. He has performed in numerous handbell groups, including the Valley Ringers, and with Bay Bells, one of the longest-running community handbell ensembles on the West Coast. As a bass handbell specialist, he was the Artistic Figurehead of Low Ding Zone, the World’s First Bass-Only Handbell Ensemble for eight years. Larry is a published handbell composer/arranger, and is the author of the Bass Ringer’s Notebook.

Carla began playing handbells in England in 1987 as a member of the Wokingham All Saints handbell group. She continued to perform with that group for more than twenty years, and also spent a number of years as a member of the South East Region Bell Orchestra, the Rowland Ringers Ensemble and Hurst Handbell Ringers. More recently, Carla has also been a member of Pizzazz Handbell Trio, as well as the Finchampstead group “Inspiration”, which was nominated for a Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2012. Carla co-directed the Alleluia Ringers at Los Altos United Methodist Church, Los Altos, California until the summer of 2016.
