Sigma Alpha 5K Duck Race
Join Sigma Alpha's first ever 5k Duck Race!
Sigma Alpha is a national sorority for women with a personal or professional interest in agriculture and natural resources. Our members strive for achievement in scholarship, leadership, fellowship, and service. The Sigma Alpha Duck Race fundraiser began in 1998 as a joint fundraising and philanthropy project within the Gamma Chapter. This year is the first year that the Duck Race will be held as a 5K! All the proceeds will go to the Scholarship Endowment Fund our sorority established in 2015 through the Michigan 4-H Foundation. These scholarships will be awarded to in-state graduating high school seniors attending Michigan State University to further their education. In order to financially maintain the scholarship fund, it is required for our organization to raise $30,000. The Gamma Chapter is excited to have raised over half of the required start-up funds in just a few years, but we are eager to raise the remaining amount by 2020 so that scholarships may be awarded as soon as possible.
The Michigan 4-H Foundation has a mission to create non-formal, educational opportunities to help youth thrive in a complex and changing world. The four H’s stand for Head, Heart, Hands and Health with each of these categories representing the 4-H principles.
